Yves Gorat Stommel is currently the deputy head of the function Evonik Digital, as well as the head of the Cognitive Solutions team, with a strong focus on setting-up and implementing a comprehensive, company-wide Artificial Intelligence and data analysis strategy. Through his international exposure as an expat (China and US) and through his work assignments, Yves has gained a deeper understanding of (and growing interest in) intercultural and international work environments. Yves holds both an engineering (Dipl.-Ing.) and PhD (Dr.-Ing.) degree from the University of Cottbus, Germany, as well as an MBA degree from the Euro*MBA Consortium.
The Pop in Your Job:
Yves’ motivation stems from bringing together people, technology and positive change. By continuously questioning, improving and re-imagining operational and business processes – amongst others by looking at the company through the “lens” of enabling and disruptive technologies like Artificial Intelligence – value is created for both the company and its employees. This does not only require identifying, benchmarking and implementing best practices, but more importantly targeted communication, linking knowledge and an emphasis on global instead of local mindsets and approaches.

As many chemical producers are developing and implementing comprehensive AI strategies, newer AI paradigms, such as generative and agentic platforms are set to transform the benefits AI can provide. Due to the continuous generation of data and the complexity and intricacies of the chemical processes themselves, the chemical industry is especially primed to benefit from the vast computing and analysis power offered by artificial intelligence technologies. The industry has the sophistication, patience and rigor to implement these technologies at scale. The amount of benefit it can get from just a small percentage improvement is dramatic, whether it’s in emissions reduction or production output. The rapid technological advances are progressing industrial AI from predictive to generative and agentic, opening up distinct and complementary capabilities, including decision-making. Creating situation-specific dashboards on the fly to help guide troubleshooting decisions and visualize relevant data is an area where agentic AI excels for industrial users. In this session you will learn:
