Batch processes are notoriously difficult to optimize. They are highly nonlinear dynamic processes where key variables, such as conversion rates, are not always available in real time. Besides that, quality can only be determined at the end of the batch.
These specific process characteristics lead to very different optimization approaches compared to continuous processes. In this presentation, IPCOS will provide a broad overview of different methodologies, expected outcomes and actual examples of how digital solutions can improve operational excellence, specifically for batch operations:
My Colleague Peter Van Overschee, the KULeuven and I started the company in 1995. Our initial focus was to help companies to optimize their assets with better control solutions (tuning, control structures, APC, training, etc). Today that is still what IPCOS stands for. Boosting the performance of an existing plant by making it better from a control point of view. Since 1998 we extended our offering with Digitial Oilfield solutions. After working on projects in mechatronics, power plants and chemicals i started to focus more on sales for the POE business unit. Trying to find a match between my (and IPCOS') technical know-how and the challenges the customers have during their day to day operations.
